SHERIFF’S OFFICE PARTNERSHIP
WITH UNITED WAY OF WILL COUNTY
Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley and the Will County Sheriff’s Office have established a partnership with United Way of Will County. By partnering with United Way, and being under the umbrella of their tax exempt status, the Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Foundation will now be able to raise supporting funds for extra programs that fall outside of the general budget. One hundred percent of the funds donated will go directly to the Will County Sheriff Public Safety Foundation to support public safety initiatives, which will allow the Sheriff’s Office to better serve the residents of Will County.
A general donation can now be made to the foundation through credit card or checks.
To donate by check: make payable to United Way of Will County and in the memo section write Will County Public Safety Foundation.
To donate by credit card: visit www.uwwill.org/DonateNow.aspx. In the comment section write Will County Public Safety Foundation.
If you wish your donation to be directed to a more specific public safety program, please feel free to specify on your donation one of the following programs:
Canine Operations and Care – We now have four K-9’s that serve and support our patrol deputies. (Roxy, Riggs, Ryker, and Tucker) Our dedicated K-9 handlers are unique individuals who are highly trained and utilize the canines in finding missing persons, detecting illicit drugs and explosives, and perform public demonstrations throughout our communities. These deputies are equipped with specialized vehicles that support the canines for their daily work day.
Elderly Services – The Sheriff’s Office has deputies assigned to assisting seniors with several of their needs. We are currently involved in nine TRIAD groups throughout Will County. TRIAD is a partnership with law enforcement, seniors, and community groups and promotes senior safety. Monthly meetings are held in various locations where specific topics and questions are answered relating to reducing the fear of crimes associated with seniors, educational talks about legal issues, senior rights, phone and internet scams, and a variety of other topics.
Public Safety – Our deputies are required to follow all industry practices and standards, therefore training in law enforcement is continuous. Specialized unit deputies such as SWAT, Canines, Evidence, Investigations, Traffic, IT, Firearms, etc. attend specific training workshops, in our area, as well as around the country, in order to be at the top of their game.
Youth Services include programs such as Shop with a Cop, Shop with SWAT, Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer and Child Fingerprinting. Our dedicated deputies and lay staff are committed to their careers and welcome assisting those in need and the less fortunate. Each year the Sheriff’s Office partners with Morning Star Mission/Walmart and the Guardian Angel Home Foster Care Program/Target, in their efforts to ensure that these kids experience a wonderful Christmas.
In 2017, the Sheriff’s Office rolled out its new Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer. This trailer is available for municipal fairs and events, adult/parent organizations, etc. It is a mobile unit that educates adults on where a teenager may be hiding illegal drugs or other materials within their bedroom setting, and helps identify clues and what they should be looking for in the scope of keeping their teen’s safe and drug free.
Deputies are specifically trained and attend numerous events throughout the community in order to fingerprint children. The objective for this process is storing those fingerprints in the FBI’s National database in case a child goes missing.
Will County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition – This coalition was established as part of the Sheriff’s mission to assist in the prevention of opioid use. Its main objective is hosting forums and community events to educate parents, schools, churches, and the community in the fight against this horrific epidemic.
The Sheriff’s Office would also like to remind residents that the Will County Sheriff’s Office never solicits funds over the phone or through the mail. This initiative will be handled solely through person-to-person donations.
