ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. U.S. Citizen
  2. Must be 21 years of age (No age cap)
  3. Valid driver’s license
  4. High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  5. No felony or certain misdemeanor convictions from any jurisdiction
  6. You must be a resident of Illinois and remain a resident while employed with WCSO
  7. FOID card (Apply for one if you don’t have one)
  8. Work mandatory overtime as necessitated by staffing – not to exceed two force backs in a row
  9. Must have completed an Illinois Corrections Academy (No other states qualify)

*  PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYED AS A C.O. YOU MAY NOT QUALIFY AS A LATERAL. THIS WOULD DEPEND ON HOW LONG AGO YOU WERE A C.O. AND THE LENGTH OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT.  IF YOU DO NOT QUALIFY AS A LATERAL YOU WOULD HAVE TO APPLY AS ENTRY LEVEL AND IF YOU WERE OFFERED THE POSITION YOU WOULD HAVE TO ATTEND THE ACADEMY.  PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR INFORMATION AND WE WILL CLARIFY FOR YOU PRIOR TO APPLYING *

 TESTING PROCESS:  You will be emailed each step in the process! Passing all steps in the process does not guarantee a job offer.

 

*32-Page Long Application packet

Complete the packet mailed to you by the deadline.

After turning in your 32-Page Long Application packet, your file will be sent to the Adult Detention Facility Panel for review.  If selected to continue the following steps will be required:

*Personality evaluation screening by a psychologist

 

*Polygraph test

 

*In-depth background investigation

A mailout is completed from the long application and inquiries emailed to your personal and employment references.  Along with police checks.

An investigator will conduct a background investigation.

 

*Fingerprint Appointment

You will be fingerprinted and required to bring personal documents for us to copy. DL, SS Card, H.S. Diploma/GED Cert., Birth Cert., Naturalization Cert. (If needed), FOID Card, and any other documents requested.

 

*Adult Detention Facility Panel’s Interview

You will be interviewed by the Adult Detention Facility Panel, and if selected for hire will be sent for a full medical and drug screening test you must pass, before being hired.

 

POST EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:

 

Once hired as a Will County Sheriff’s Lateral Deputy Correctional Officer, the applicant will receive the following training:

  1. 10 weeks of In-house on the job training.
  2. Forty hours of annual In-Service training
  3. After the initial phase, the Correctional Officer will choose his/her assignment by rank seniority.
  4. Correctional Officer’s work an 8-hour shift. 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm to 7am.

* After 6 months = 48 hours of sick time

*Every month thereafter= 8 hours sick time on the anniversary date

 

VACATION

*After 1 year of service=80 hours vacation

*After 5 years of service= 120 hours of vacation

*After 10 years of service= 160 hours of vacation

*After 15 years of service= 200 hours of vacation

PERSONAL TIME:

*After 1 year of service = 3 personal days

SHIFT DEFFERENTIAL:

*Employees starting a shift after 12:00 noon and before 6:00 am, shall receive a shift differential of .60/hour
