About The Traffic Section
This nationally recognized section is highly trained and motivated. The current Traffic Section is commanded by a Sergeant, and includes 7 deputies, a Coordinator and an Administrative Clerk. Three deputies are experienced Traffic Re-constructionists and have attended Northwestern University’s prestigious Traffic Institute. The two newest deputies in the section, as well as the the deputy in charge of vehicle seizures, have recently attended reconstruction courses at Northwestern University’s Traffic Institute.
The Traffic Section has a primary responsibility to promote traffic safety throughout Will County. Major Crash Investigation; Hit and Run investigations; DUI, Speeding and Occupant Restraint enforcement; Traffic Safety education, Child Passenger Safety education; and conducting Special Projects are all part of the duties of personnel assigned to the Traffic Section.
This Section has expanded its duties to include the Department’s DUI Enforcement, Hit and Run investigations, traffic safety information and education and child passenger safety.

If you would like to request, pay for, and receive your redacted crash report via e-mail, use buycrash.com.
Obtain a Crash Report by Mail:
All requests for crash reports will be governed by the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 ILCS 140/1, and you will be receiving a redacted version of the requested records. However, if you would like an unredacted copy of a crash report, please send a subpoena or an order signed by a judge along with your request to the Will County Sheriff’s Department as follows:
· Submit a written request containing as much of the following information as possible:
1. Agency Crash Report Number- located in the upper right corner of your Driver's Information Exchange document
2. Date of the Crash
3. Location of the Crash
4. Names of Involved Parties- drivers and passengers
· Include a check or money order in the amount of $5.00 for a traffic crash report made payable to “Will County Sheriff’s Department.” Do not send cash. Note: If you are sending a subpoena with your request, please be advised an additional $20.00 subpoena processing fee must be included.
· Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope
· Mail the written request to:
