Driver Education Program

The Traffic Section teams up with area high schools driver’s education students about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Fatal Vision Goggles are used which simulate visual impairment caused by alcohol and other drugs. When wearing the goggles, students experience loss of equilibrium, which is a major factor of intoxication. The majority of students in participation of these classes become convinced that impairment is a key factor with known risks when driving a vehicle and is very dangerous. The traffic section received an grant, which allowed us to purchase SIDNE ( simulated impaired driving experience ) which simulates the dangers of impaired driving under controlled circumstances.

School Bus Safety Brochures

Each year contact is made with every grade school in Will County. An offer of school bus safety brochures is made to each of those schools. On average, each year approximately 125 schools request a total of 25,000 brochures from the Will County Sheriff’s Office. These brochures, directed to both children and parents, give instructions to children regarding safe conduct on the bus, and also entering and exiting the bus.

Prom Safety Presentations

Presentations are given to various high schools and also to local university groups.

Crossing Guard Training Program

Will County Sheriff’s Office has established the only Crossing Guard Training Program in the County, which teaches crossing guards and then certifies them through the County Superintendent of Schools office.
